The Marquette University Golden Eagles hockey team delivered a dominant performance on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the Ponds of Brookfield as they shut out the Aurora University Spartans with a final score of 5-0.
Despite the Spartans firing 42 shots on goal, the Golden Eagles stood strong defensively, with goaltender Jake Buttice making an impressive 42 saves to secure the shutout. The Golden Eagles also showcased their offensive prowess, outshooting the Spartans with 36 shots and capitalizing on their opportunities to score five goals.
While both teams struggled on the powerplay, with the Spartans going 0/10 and the Golden Eagles going 0/7, it was Marquette’s overall performance that proved to be the difference-maker in this game.
Special recognition goes to Golden Eagles’ #27 James Gorman, who contributed with two assists to help propel the team to victory. Additionally, Spartans’ goalie Ryan Diaz put up a valiant effort with 31 saves despite the relentless offensive pressure from Marquette.
